Deliberate Liberal Ignorance
Deliberate Ignorance is the opposite side of focus
“There are many things of which a wise man might wish to be ignorant” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ignorance or being ignorant is often seen as a negative by our society.
However, deliberate ignorance is the opposite side focus. To focus we must ignore, ignore everything else that is outside our focus. Ignore the distractions, ignore the thoughts about events that are happening around us or in the entire world. To focus is to ignore. To gain mastery in a subject we must mostly ignore a thousand other subjects. Hence, we shouldn't shy away from ignorance we must embrace deliberate liberal ignorance to gain selective focus.
Embrace deliberate liberal ignorance to gain selective focus.
By embracing deliberate ignorance across many areas we can focus on a few key areas that truly can make a difference in our lives. We can afford the time to dive deeper into areas of becoming healthy, wealthy, and wise. Rather than hopping from one quick surface level piece of information to another.
Different than defensive ignorance
Deliberate ignorance we describe here is different than the type of ignorance of hiding away from uncomfortable truths (Defensive Ignorance). If our beliefs are challenged, we must lean in. Deliberate liberal ignorance means ignoring distractions, not dodging difficult truths that come our way.
Learn being ok to be bored
To practice the skill of being able to ignore, one of the states that needs to be leanred to be comfortable in, is to be bored. To be ok to be bored to avoid seeking out stimilation in the forms of Cheap Dopamine, in the moments when you need to await.
